Criminal Solicitor

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Criminal Duty Solicitor to join my clients team in their Newcastle offices.\n\nThe Role:\n\nThe successful candidate will undertake a diverse caseload of criminal matters. The role includes providing representation at the police station and undertaking court work.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a motivated solicitor who wants to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment within a supportive team.\n\nKey Responsibilities and Duties\n\n• Providing clear, accurate and timely advice, assistance, and representation to clients across a broad spectrum of criminal matters.\n• Managing a busy and fast‑moving caseload while maintaining excellent client care and meeting key deadlines.\n• Ensure full compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, including those set by the Legal Aid Agency and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.\n• Accurately recording time, progressing matters efficiently, and meeting agreed billing/performance targets.\n• Working collaboratively with colleagues across the department, offering support and contributing to a positive team culture.\n• Keeping your legal knowledge up to date, participating in supervision, and maintaining relevant accreditations.\n\nSkils & Experience:\n\n• A qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law; Duty Solicitor accreditation is desirable but not essential.\n• A demonstrable commitment to publicly funded work and to ensuring equitable access to justice for all clients.\n• Ability and willingness to undertake police station advice work, including participation in the duty rota once accredited.\n• Excellent communication, analytical and advocacy skills.\n• Strong organisational capabilities with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a high‑pressure environment.\n• A professional and supportive approach to teamwork, combined with the ability to work independently when required.\n• A proactive attitude towards compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.\n\nWhat's on Offer:\n\n• Supportive and inclusive working environment.\n• Opportunities for career progression and professional development.\n• Competitive salary, performance-based bonus, and comprehensive benefits package.\n\nShould you have any questions or wish to apply please do not hesitate to contact Clear Legal and Financial Recruitment\n\nPlease Note: Due to the number of applications we receive we may be unable to respond to every application directly.
