Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Sheffield (4 days per week) with 1 day per week in Manchester\nRate: £220 per day (Initial 3-Month Contract)\nPermanent Salary: £40,000 per annum + Car Allowance\n\nWe are currently recruiting for a Freelance Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a growing construction business on an initial 3-month freelance contract, with a genuine opportunity to move into a permanent position upon successful completion.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial experience while working closely with an experienced Commercial Manager across a varied portfolio of live refurbishment projects.\n\nThe Role\n\nWorking as part of the commercial team, you'll support the Commercial Manager with the day-to-day commercial management of live projects, gaining valuable exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying. Responsibilities will include assisting with valuations, cost reporting, subcontractor management, procurement and commercial administration.\n\nProjects include:\n\n * Multi-Occupation Housing Refurbishments\n\n * School Refurbishments\n\nThe role will be primarily based in Sheffield (4 days per week), with one day per week in Manchester visiting projects and supporting the wider team.\n\nRequirements\n\n * Minimum 1–2 years' experience working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.\n\n * Previous experience within the construction industry, ideally on refurbishment projects.\n\n * Exposure to JCT forms of contract would be advantageous; however, contractual experience is not essential.\n\n * Strong organisational and communication skills.\n\n * A proactive attitude and willingness to learn while working alongside an experienced Commercial Manager.\n\n * Full UK driving licence preferred.\n\nWhat's on Offer?\n\n * Initial 3-month freelance contract at £220 per day.\n\n * Genuine opportunity to secure a permanent position.\n\n * £40,000 basic salary plus car allowance upon going permanent.\n\n * Exposure to a variety of refurbishment projects.\n\n * Mentorship and support from an experienced Commercial Manager.\n\n * Excellent long-term career progression within a growing business.\n\nIf you're an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 1–2 years' experience looking for your next opportunity and a clear route into a permanent role, we'd love to hear from you.
